In order to be able to use your idCAT Certificate you must follow the following steps:
The public keys are used to verify that the certificates that reach our computer equipment have been issued by one of the certification authorities in the hierarchy of entities of the AOC Consortium.
To download the two public keys press the following links:
1.- key of the certifying body of the AOC Consortium
2.- key of the citizen certification entity
Depending on your browser , do the following installation steps:
- Edge and Google Chrome on Windows operating system:
- Save the files to your hard drive.
- Run the file and follow the steps in the wizard.
- Mozilla Firefox on Windows, Linux or MAC system
- Save the files to your hard drive.
- Inside Firefox import the downloaded file by opening the options from the right side menu, Options > Advanced > Certificates > View certificates > Entities tab > Import > Select file.
- Safari and Google Chrome on MAC
- Save the files to your hard drive.
- Double-click the downloaded file, and accept the installation in the certificate store.
- For the idCAT Certificate to be recognized as trustworthy, you must access MAC Keys - Certificates tab - double-click on the EC-ACC public key and click on the Get information menu and on this screen, in the Trust drop-down mark Always trust (the password asked on completion is your MAC password):
Note : If you have an antivirus installed on your computer, it may not recognize the file type and display a security alert to confirm trust.
Access the website idcat.cat/download from a desktop or laptop computer and fill in the identification data, completing the fields:
- Type of supporting document: choose the type (NIF, NIE, etc.)
- Number: Enter as it appears in the document
- Download code (password): Enter the sequence you have on the delivery slip or received in the email (sometimes the email manager may interpret this email as SPAM. Please check this inbox.)
- Personal code: enter the code that you indicated to the Registration Entity idCAT and that only you know
Once the details are filled in, click Search and the website will display the certificate details and contact details. Once reviewed, click Download.
If you are using Windows, depending on the browser used, you will be asked to "Save" or "Open" the file, click on "Save" so that it is saved in the location defined for your browser's downloads. In the case of using MAC and Safari, the browser will ask you if you want to allow or block the download of the file. Click "allow" to complete the download process.
Once done, you will see a message confirming that the download was successful:
Please note that the deadline for downloading idCAT is 90 days and 10 attempts from the date of issue. Once the deadline has passed, you will have to repeat the application process.
To install the certificate, look for the file with the extension .p12 or pfx downloaded on your computer in the folder defined for downloads.

Double-click the file and then follow the steps in the wizard. Keep in mind that the assistant will ask you for the Download Code (password) that appears in the email you received or on the delivery slip.
On this same screen you can select different import options:
- " Enable secure protection of the private key " mark if you want the system to warn you every time an application requires the use of the certificate or to protect it with a pin for use.
- " Mark this key as exportable " (recommended option) mark if you want that once the digital certificate is installed in the browser, it can then be copied to another browser or device.
Click next at each step until you reach Finish and you will have the idCAT certificate installed in the Windows repository in Edge and Google Chrome.
We recommend that you keep the .p12 or pfx file as a backup. To reinstall it, remember that you have the download code on the delivery note or in the e-mail you received.
Next if you want, you can check the operation of the idCAT.
To install the certificate, look for the file with the extension .p12 or pfx downloaded on your computer in the folder defined for downloads. Make sure you have the padlock icon listed in Keychains - Login open in order for the idCAT certificate to install properly.
Then double-click the file and select from the drop-down Keys: Login and press the Add button to install the certificate.
During this process the system may ask you for two passwords: first the system administrator password and then the download code (password) that appears in the e-mail received or on the delivery slip.
Then access the Keys folder - Certificates tab - EC-ACC--> press "Get information" and once here, by expanding the Trust menu, it indicates Always trust it. By doing this the system will ask you for your MAC credentials.

Then do the same steps with the EC-Ciutadania public key by expanding the Trust menu indicating Always trust it.
Once done, you will have the idCAT certificate installed in the MAC repository in Safari and Google Chrome.
We recommend that you keep the .p12 file as a backup. To re-install the file remember that you have the download code on the delivery sheet or in the e-mail received.

IMPORTANT : To be able to use the idCAT Certificate on a mobile device, you must first have downloaded the installation file on a computer (Follow the previous steps).
